Australia’s sporting world this winter

Winter may be upon us in Australia but that won’t stop a host of sporting events happening over these next few months as the country gears up for another important season of world-class sport.

For sports betting fans, the Aussie winter offers a spectacular range of live events to while away those short nights and across the country there’s plenty of opportunity to watch the stars in action.

Possibly the biggest winter sport, NRL, is already up and running for this season and both Melbourne Storm and South Sydney Rabbitohs look destined to push for the title. After eight rounds we’ve already witnessed some pulsating rugby and sports betting fans will only be served more this May through October.

The AFL season has also kicked off and both Essendon and Geelong have proved surprise packages this campaign. Neither team appeared ready to challenge for a top place on the AFL ladder after finishing 2012 way off the boil yet early-season charges this term means they already boast a four-point lead over the chasing pack.

If TV sport is more your thing then Grand Slam tennis at Roland Garros and Wimbledon is right around the corner; Mark Webber continues to chase the Drivers Championship in his Red Bull F1 car and Adam Scott gets his chance at redemption at the Open golf.

Yet the highlight of the winter is certainly the Ashes, where an inexperienced Baggy Greens side head to England for five matches of captivating Test cricket.

England are certainly favourites having won three of their last four series with Australia but Michael Clarke has a youthful vigour to his squad that could come to the fore early on at Trent Bridge.

Cricket betting fans on Bet365 are likely to watch this series closely as it’s our turn to host the English over the New Year period, and there is plenty of sport to keep us entertained before that return clash.
