Five Australia Suburbs in High Demand

According to a top sellers’ report from July 2013, realestate.com.au ranks South Australia and Victoria as two of the regions in highest demand. The following five suburbs from around the country were at the top of the list, according to buyer interest.

1. Mount Hawthorn
Ranked the most popular suburb in Western Australia, Mount Hawthorn is a vibrant community in close proximity to Perth’s city centre. It’s particularly popular with families, due to the excellent reputation of its schools. Mount Hawthorn Primary School is a major draw for families with young children, with the local high school also receiving top marks. The suburb is also marked by a number of local public transport options, making it ideal for commuters into the city. The area is marked by a number of independent shops and local restaurants; many with an Italian influence.

 
2. Surrey Hills
A perennial favourite in the Melbourne area, Surrey Hills was ranked 2nd nationally and 1st in Victoria in the past quarter by realestate.com.au. Property owners in the area tend to hold onto their homes, making the hunt for a house in Surrey Hills somewhat competitive. The area’s popular for its excellent schools, community facilities, and top notch cafes. It’s also close to a train line into the city centre, for an easy commute. 3. Ravenswood
Another Western Australia suburb that is currently in high demand is Ravenswood. This suburb is located to the south of Perth, part of the larger Murray region. The terrain in and around Ravenswood offers fishing, bush walking, and cycling opportunities for a laid back way of life. Median house prices are affordable at $295,000.

4. Oyster Bay
A suburb in southern Sydney, Oyster Bay was ranked number one in New South Wales. It is popular with buyers seeking a quiet, laid back way of life with a strong sense of community. With good schools, a close-knit community, and leafy streets, Oyster Bay is appealing to a wide variety of potential homeowners. Oyster Bay is home to the Green Point Observatory and the diverse eco-system of Coronation Bay, with its lush mangroves. The neighbourhood includes amenities like a post office, chemist, bakery, restaurants, and gym; but the commute into Sydney’s city centre is only 40 minutes.

5. Fitzroy North
Another top suburb in the Melbourne area, Fitzroy North has been growing in demand over the past couple of years. The median house price in July this year was $675,000, reflecting an upward trend. Only four kilometres to the north of Melbourne’s city centre, Fitzroy North benefits from an excellent location and wide, leafy residential streets. Many of the properties in the area are distinct Victorian and Edwardian terrace houses with unique ironwork and verandas. The sprawling Edinburgh Gardens provide ample leisure opportunities, and the high quality schools make the area popular with families.
